Import a chat into WaChat
Two ways: a WhatsApp export for a single chat, or your encrypted backup with the 64-digit key for everything at once.
Export a chat from WhatsApp
Good for one chat. WhatsApp cuts the export at 10,000 messages with media or 40,000 without — for longer chats use the key method.
On Android
- 1Open the chat in WhatsApp and tap the three dots in the top corner.
- 2Tap More, then Export chat.
- 3Choose Include media to keep photos and voice notes (or Without media for a smaller file).
- 4Pick where to save: Drive, Files, or send the ZIP to yourself.
- 5Open WaChat Web and drop the ZIP anywhere on the page — or pick it in the file dialog.
On iPhone
- 1Open the chat in WhatsApp and tap the contact or group name at the top.
- 2Scroll down and tap Export Chat.
- 3Choose Attach Media to keep photos and voice notes (or Without Media).
- 4Save to Files, or AirDrop / share the ZIP to a computer.
- 5Open WaChat Web on any device and drop the ZIP in.
If WaChat shows "WhatsApp truncated this export", the chat was longer than the export limit. Switch to the 64-digit key method to get all of it.
Get the file to WaChat Web
USB cable to a computer
Connect the phone, choose File transfer, and copy the Databases folder (and Media if you want photos) to the computer. Then pick the file in WaChat Web.
Quick Share or AirDrop
Share msgstore.db.crypt15 from a file manager to your Windows PC (Quick Share) or Mac (Android File Transfer / third-party). Large media folders are faster over USB.
Right on the phone
Open web.wachatplus.com in Chrome on the phone itself, tap Pick file and browse to the Databases folder. No computer needed; media works with single files.
Troubleshooting
"Wrong key"
The backup was made with a different key than the one you pasted. Make sure you ran a new backup after generating the key, and that the file is the newest one. If you turned encryption off and on again, WhatsApp made a new key.
"Older crypt14 format"
Files ending in .crypt14 (or .crypt12) predate end-to-end encrypted backup and their key lives inside WhatsApp's private storage. Turn on end-to-end encrypted backup with a 64-digit key and back up again to get a crypt15 file.
"File looks incomplete"
The copy was interrupted or the phone was still writing the backup. Copy the file again once WhatsApp shows the backup as finished, and compare the file size.
"Not enough storage"
The browser needs roughly the decrypted size of the backup (about 1.5× the file). Free some disk space, or try Chrome or Edge on a computer, which allow much larger local storage.
